Cartmel is one of the Lake District’s oldest and prettiest villages. It evolved around the 12th century Priory church.
Its obviously a ramblers dream with plenty of walks from Cartmel itself, with walks for serious hikers, but also a two minute walk to the four fantastic pubs in Cartmel. Other great walks can found in and around the race course, again, a couple of minutes walk away. Perhaps your idea of a walk is a mooch around the quaint shops and tea rooms in Cartmel, including the original sticky toffee pudding from The Cartmel Village Shop.
It is also the home of the Michelin star L'enclume restaurant.
The 800 year old Priory is certainly worth a visit.
Cartmel really is like stepping back in time, and its difficult not be completely chilled and get into the relaxed pace of life.
Cartmel and its surrounding area also benefits a milder climate due to the Gulf Stream.
